What this sheet is for

Catch what is coming to the end of its date while there is still time to use it, and leave a dated record that the round was walked.

Who it is for

Kitchens, cafes, delis, shops and anyone running a stock room where things go out of date quietly.

How to use it

  1. Write the site and the week at the top, and note who is walking the round.
  2. Work one location at a time — fridge, freezer, dry store — so nothing is skipped.
  3. Write the code exactly as printed on the pack.
  4. Record the action taken: used first, moved forward, or discarded.
  5. Sign each line, so a question about a pack has a name against it.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: The walk-round that catches what is going out of date — item, where it is, the code on the pack, what you did about it, and who did the checking.

Records the round, not the rule. How often this round is walked, and what you do with something close to its code, are decisions for your kitchen and the rules that apply where you are. This sheet records the round: what was looked at, what was found and what was done, in one line each.

Questions

How often should this round be walked?

That is a decision for your kitchen, and the rules that apply where you are may have something to say about it. The sheet is laid out for a running record rather than a fixed frequency, so it works whichever pattern you settle on.

Why record things that were fine?

Because the value of the sheet is evidence that the round happened, not just a list of problems. A page with actions on every line and nothing in between says less than a full walk-round does.
