Walk the fields with a list and leave a record of what was found and what was done about it. A plant pulled and logged this year tells you where to look next year.
Horse owners, yard managers and landowners who graze horses, including people who rent grazing.
2 pages, in this order:
Printed under the title: A walk log for horse fields: gates, fences, water, shelter and the ground on each walk, then the poisonous plants found and the season's control jobs on page two.
Identify it before you pull it. No list of poisonous plants is printed, and nothing here identifies one. Get anything you are unsure of identified before you pull it, wear gloves, and check the rules where you are for disposing of it. Agree in writing whether the owner or the landowner does each control job.
Write-on lines: Yard or land · Fields covered · Landowner and phone · Fixed hazards to remember: overhead lines, ditches, setts, trees

Because which plants matter depends on where you are, and a short printed list could make a plant left off it look safe. Get anything you are unsure of identified by your vet, an adviser or a botanist, and write its name as identified.
It depends on the grazing agreement and on the rules where you are, so the sheet does not say. The season plan has a column to write down who has agreed to do each job, owner or landowner, so it is settled before the plants are in flower.
Track field rest and poo-picking, the two things that do most for horse grazing and that nobody records.
Record the fence walk and the faults, including who is responsible for each boundary before money is spent on it.
Track rest as well as grazing, because the rest period is the part of rotational grazing that actually does the work and the part nobody records.
Get the yard ready for frost, mud and short days before the first hard freeze. Each job is dated and initialled, so it is clear what is done and by whom.
