Know every pack you own, which charger it uses and when it was last looked at. A swollen or cracked pack is written out of use, not put back on charge.
Workshops, joiners, site teams, schools and households with more than a handful of cordless tool batteries.
2 pages, in this order:
Printed under the title: Every cordless tool battery and charger numbered once, then a dated look at each pack and the charging station, and a record of every pack taken out of use and where it went.
A damaged pack comes out of use. Take a pack out of use straight away if it is cracked, swollen, leaking, smells odd or runs hot when it should not. Keep it apart from other packs and anything that burns, do not open it, and ask the maker or your local recycling point how to dispose of it; check the rules where you are.

The sheet does not set a frequency: it depends on how hard the packs are used and what your own risk assessment says. Look at a pack whenever it has been dropped or gets unusually hot, as well as at your regular check.
Because makers design their chargers and packs to work together, and a pack from another source may not charge the same way. Knowing which packs are which helps when one fails or a charger is replaced.

Get every tool you own onto one register with its serial number, so a theft, a fire or a claim starts from a list instead of from memory.
Record what the business owns rather than what is in the shed: a numbered list with cost and disposal, which is what an insurer or an accountant asks for.
Know who has what and when it was due back, and record the condition an item was in when it came home rather than discovering it at the next job.
Every sheet, binder, game and puzzle on Upkeep Papers is free to download, with no email and no account. Making them is not free: each one takes days of research, design and checking, and the site costs money to run. If something here saved you time, you can buy us a coffee. It is entirely optional: nothing is locked, and nothing changes if you don’t.
