What this sheet is for

See which columns are full and which are quiet, and how much time is lost to no-shows, before deciding on hours, staffing or a cancellation policy.

Who it is for

Salon and studio owners and managers who let chairs or rooms to stylists and therapists, or who roster their own staff against bookings.

How to use it

  1. Write each column's hours open for the day — your own figure — at the start of its row.
  2. Fill in hours booked at the start of the day, and walk-ins and empty hours at the end.
  3. Count no-shows and late cancellations as hours lost, not as bookings.
  4. Total the week at the foot to compare columns and weeks.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: How much of each chair, couch or room was actually used against the hours it was open — booked, filled on the day, left empty, lost to no-shows — one row per column per day.

Your hours, counted. The hours a column is open are yours to set; write them in the first column of each row. This sheet just puts booked, filled and empty hours beside them so a quiet Tuesday or a stylist who is always double-booked shows up on paper.

Questions

Is there a target utilisation figure?

No. What counts as a full column depends on your prices, your rent and how you pay your staff. The sheet gives you the hours; the judgement is yours.

Why count no-shows separately from empty hours?

Because an empty hour was never sold and a no-show was. They need different fixes — one is marketing, the other is a deposit or a reminder.
