Brake Measurement Record
Show a customer or a fleet manager the actual figures behind an advisory, and see at the next visit how much has worn since the last one.
Running costs and fleet · GF-13
A free printable brake test record: method, load at test, axle-by-axle readings, service, secondary and parking efficiency against your standard, and the outcome.
One page. Choose your paper size — both versions are laid out identically, so neither one gets shrunk to fit.
Print it and write on it
Fill it in type and save
The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.
Record each inspection's brake result axle by axle, with the method and the load at test. The required efficiencies are written in from your own standard, so the result can be checked later.
Fleet engineers, maintenance contractors and transport managers who carry out or receive brake tests at safety inspections.
One page, top to bottom:
Printed under the title: One safety inspection's brake result, axle by axle, with the method, the load on board and what was done about it.
The required figures are yours. Write in the efficiency each brake system has to reach from the standard your inspection manual or maintenance provider works to; no figure is printed here. Note the load, since an unladen result does not read like a laden one, and staple the print-out or decelerometer slip behind this sheet.
Write-on lines: Vehicle reg / fleet no. · Trailer no. · Inspection date · Odometer · Where tested
Also printed: Method · Roller brake test · Decelerometer · Onboard monitoring · Other · Load at test · Laden · Part laden · Unladen · Load or weight carried
Also printed: Service brake · Parking brake · Temperature
Table, 6 rows: Axle · Left · Right · Imbalance · Left · Right · Left · Right · Notes
Also printed: Service brake · Secondary brake · Parking brake · Park brake tug test
Table, 1 rows: Found · Required · Found · Required · Found · Required · Date · Held?
Write-on lines: Outcome: pass, adjusted, fail · Action taken · Tester's signature · Date
Because the figure depends on the vehicle, its age and the standard your inspection manual or maintenance provider works to, and it can change. The sheet gives a box beside each result for the figure it is judged against, so the record shows both.
A vehicle tested empty and the same vehicle tested laden give different readings, and some methods project a laden figure from an unladen test. Writing down the load and the method tells a later reader which kind of result they are looking at.

Keep every reported defect open on one register until it is repaired and signed roadworthy. A count of the open lines at each review shows what is still waiting.
See every renewal for every vehicle at once, so nothing is discovered the week after it lapsed or the morning a vehicle is needed.
Prove every refitted wheel was checked again once it had settled, and say who checked it. The wrench, its calibration and your own torque figures sit at the top, so every check is made against the right numbers.

Making them is not free: each one takes days of research, design and checking, and the site costs money to run. If something here saved you time, you can buy us a coffee. It is entirely optional: nothing is locked, and nothing changes if you don’t.
