What this sheet is for

Keep a plain written record of when a driver started, stopped and rested, so the week can be checked against whatever limits apply to you.

Who it is for

Drivers and small operators who need a paper record of hours — couriers, tippers, minibus and coach drivers, farm and site drivers.

How to use it

  1. Head the sheet with the driver, the week beginning and the vehicles used.
  2. Fill in each day as it ends, while the times are still exact.
  3. Record breaks with when they were taken as well as how long they lasted.
  4. Note loading, waiting and other duties separately from driving.
  5. Sign it at the end of the week and have it checked, then file it.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A week of driving in one place — start, finish, breaks taken and hours worked, written down by the driver and signed off at the end of the week.

The limits are not ours to set. No limits are printed on this sheet. What counts as driving time, what breaks are needed and how long a shift may run are set by the rules where you are and by your own operator's policy — check those, and use this to record what actually happened.

Write-on lines: Driver · Week beginning · Vehicle(s) · Operator

Questions

Why does the sheet not print the hours limits?

Because they are set by the rules where you are, by the kind of vehicle and by your own operator's policy — they differ between countries and between vehicle classes. Check the rules that apply to you and record the real times here.

Does this replace a tachograph?

No. Where a tachograph or other recording equipment is fitted, or called for by the rules where you are, that equipment is the record. This sheet is a written summary for the driver and the office, useful where nothing automatic is fitted.
