What this sheet is for
Know what is in every box and where it is meant to end up, so you can find the kettle on the first night and tell on the day whether anything is missing.
Who it is for
Anyone packing more than a car load, and anyone using a removal firm or a storage unit where boxes leave your sight.
How to use it
- Number each box before you fill it, and write that number on two sides and the top.
- Write one line per box as you seal it, not afterwards.
- Fill in the room it is going to, not only the room it came from.
- Tick the unpacked column as each box is emptied — the empty ticks are your list of what is still to do.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
How much detail should the contents column have?
Enough to find one specific thing. 'Kitchen' is useless; 'pans, chopping boards, kettle' means you can open the right box first time.
Is this any use if a removal firm is packing for me?
Yes, and arguably more. Firms number and list boxes to their own system; keeping your own copy means you can check the count off the van yourself.
