What this sheet is for

List what you own before you need to, so a claim or a police report starts from a document rather than from trying to remember a burgled room.

Who it is for

Homeowners, renters, landlords furnishing a let, and anyone who has just realised they could not list their own possessions.

How to use it

  1. Work one room per sheet, photographing as you go.
  2. Record serial numbers for anything that has one — it is what identifies recovered property.
  3. Note where the receipt or proof is, even when the answer is that there is none.
  4. Keep a copy away from the house: a relative, a workplace, cloud storage.
  5. Update it when something significant comes in or goes out.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

Will my insurer accept this?

Ask them. Insurers set their own requirements for evidence, and they differ. The sheet prints no sums, no valuations and no cover categories — its job is to make sure the information exists at all, which is the part people leave until it is too late.
