What this sheet is for

Get the daily round out of your head and onto a page, so a neighbour, a relative or a sitter can keep the holding running while you are away.

Who it is for

Smallholders, homesteaders and anyone who has ever tried to explain the round over the phone.

How to use it

  1. Write it for the person covering, not for yourself.
  2. Put the vet's number and the emergency contact at the top, not the bottom.
  3. Say where the feed is and how much, in a way a stranger could follow.
  4. Leave the sheet somewhere obvious with the notes section blank for them to fill.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

How detailed should it be?

Detailed enough that somebody who has never fed your animals could do it correctly. The things you do without thinking — which gate sticks, which hen hides, which drinker leaks — are exactly what gets missed.
