What this sheet is for
Turn a run of losses into a visible pattern, because predation almost always repeats at the same hour and the same weak point.
Who it is for
Poultry, rabbit and waterfowl keepers, smallholders and anyone losing stock.
How to use it
- Record the time as well as the date; the pattern is usually in the hour.
- Write down how it got in, even when you are guessing, and mark it as a guess.
- Photograph damage before you repair it.
- Review the sheet after the third incident — that is when the pattern shows.

Record the pattern; check what control is lawful. Losses happen in patterns: the same hour, the same weak point, the same weather. A record is how the pattern becomes visible. It identifies no species and recommends no control method — what is lawful differs by country and some predators are protected.

What should I do about the predator?
This sheet does not say. Which species are protected, what control is lawful and who may carry it out differ enormously by country, and some of the obvious answers are criminal offences in some places. Record the losses, then take local advice.
Does this help with an insurance or scheme claim?
It may, and a contemporaneous dated record with photographs is worth far more than a recollection. Whether anything is payable is between you and them.
