What this sheet is for

Stop the market day being remembered on the road. The float, the weights, the price cards and the organiser's paperwork are ticked before the engine starts.

Who it is for

Producers and makers trading at farmers markets, food fairs and craft markets, and anyone setting up a stall for the first time.

How to use it

  1. Write the documents your organiser asks for in the blank at the top.
  2. Tick the loading list before you leave, with the stock count on your takings sheet.
  3. Work through the pitch list before you open — weights on before stock out.
  4. Tick the pack-down list, and note what ran out and what came home.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: What goes in the van, what goes on the table and what comes back — ticked on the day, not remembered on the road.

Your pitch, your market's rules. What you display, how food is kept and what the organiser asks of traders differ by place and by pitch — write yours in the blank. This is the order of the day, not the rules of the market.

Write-on lines: Market · Date · Pitch no. · Trader · Organiser asks for (yours)

Before leaving

  • Stock loaded and counted — tally written on the takings sheet
  • Chilled stock in cool boxes with ice packs, chilled overnight
  • Gazebo, weights, table, cloths, clips, sign and banner
  • Scales, bags, boxes, pens, tape, and a price card for every line
  • Float counted, card reader charged, receipt pad
  • Documents the organiser expects — insurance, registration, whatever they ask
  • Hand-wash kit, sanitiser, cloths, bin bags, gloves, samples tray

At the pitch

  • Gazebo weighted on all four legs before anything goes on the table
  • Table wiped and cloth on before stock comes out
  • Chilled lines last out of the cool box, covered, thermometer showing
  • Prices visible on every line, allergen information to hand

Packing down

  • Unsold stock counted and written on the takings sheet, chilled lines boxed first
  • Cash counted against the float and the reader total
  • Pitch swept and left as found — organiser's rules on waste

Questions

Why does it not list what I have to display?

Because that depends on where you trade and what you sell — pricing, allergen information and food hygiene rules differ by place, and markets have their own terms on top. Write what your organiser and the rules where you are require in the blanks.

Can I add my own items?

Yes. There are ruled notes at the bottom for the things only your stall needs, and you can cross out lines that do not apply.
