What this sheet is for

Know what is on the shelf, what it cost and what it sells at. Sale-or-return producers get paid on what really sold.

Who it is for

Farm shops, farm gate stalls and small producer shops stocking their own and other people's lines.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the shop, the section and the date of the count.
  2. List every line with its producer or supplier and the unit it sells in.
  3. Write your cost and your shelf price — the sheet has no figures of its own.
  4. Tick sale-or-return lines so the producer can be paid on what sold.
  5. Count what is on the shelf, and note the reorder quantity and anything out of date.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: The shelf as it stands: every line on sale, who makes it, what it costs you and sells at, and what is on the shelf now.

Your prices, not ours. Cost, price and margin are yours. This sheet has the columns; it has no figures and no advice on what to charge. Sale-or-return lines are marked so a producer can be paid on what actually sold.

Write-on lines: Shop · Date counted · Counted by · Section / shelf

Table, 15 rows: Product · Producer / supplier · Unit · Cost · Price · SOR · On shelf · Reorder · Notes

Questions

Does the sheet suggest a margin or a price?

No. Cost, price and margin are yours, and they differ by product, by producer and by what your customers will pay. The columns are there; the numbers are not.

Why one row per product rather than per producer?

Because a count happens shelf by shelf, and a producer may have five lines on three shelves. Group rows by section if you want a per-producer total.
