What this sheet is for

Find the missing split ring or the loose bung in the dinghy park, before the boat is launched. One card per boat builds a record over a season.

Who it is for

Dinghy sailors, club and school fleet managers, bosuns and sailing instructors.

How to use it

  1. Keep one card with each boat, in a plastic sleeve if it lives outside.
  2. Before each outing, write the date and the helm at the top of a column.
  3. Tick each check, or cross it and write the fault at the foot of the card.
  4. Tell the bosun about any fault before you launch, or before you leave.
  5. Start a new card after eight outings and keep the old one.

Questions

Why is no rig tension printed?

Tension depends on the class, the mast and the conditions, and each class has its own tuning guidance. The card only asks whether the rigging is sound and secure.

Why a card for eight outings rather than a sheet each time?

A boat checked by different people over a season builds its own record on one card, so a fitting that keeps working loose shows up as a row of crosses.
