Caravan Habitation Check Record

What this sheet is for

Record damp readings at the same points year after year, so a wet corner shows up as a trend long before it shows up as a repair bill.

Who it is for

Caravan, motorhome and campervan owners, and anyone inspecting one before buying.

How to use it

1. Choose your reading points and note them down — then use exactly those points every year.
2. Record the actual number, not just 'dry'; the change between years is the useful part.
3. Work through gas, water, ventilation, electrics, appliances and seals in order.
4. Keep the completed sheets together — three years of readings is worth far more than one.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

Does this replace a professional habitation check?

No. Gas work is regulated in most countries and usually has to be carried out by a qualified person, and warranties often depend on an annual check by an approved workshop. Check what applies where you are. This sheet records what you found between those checks, and gives the engineer a history to read.

What damp reading is too high?

That is set by your meter's own scale and by the workshop reading it, and it differs between materials and meters. What you can rely on without any of that is the direction of travel: the same point, the same meter, rising year on year, is worth investigating whatever the number says.
