Antifoul and Hull Treatment Log

A free printable antifouling record sheet — every coat, primer and polish on the hull with product, colour and batch, plus the fouling seen at haul-out.

First page of the Antifoul and Hull Treatment Log — Know exactly what is on the hull before you buy the next tin. The haul-out lines then show whether the paint you chose actually kept the growth off.

What this sheet is for

Know exactly what is on the hull before you buy the next tin. The haul-out lines then show whether the paint you chose actually kept the growth off.

Who it is for

Owners of any boat that gets antifouled — sail or motor, on a swinging mooring, in a marina or launched from a trailer.

How to use it

  1. Write the current product, type and colour at the top once you have read the tin.
  2. Add a line for every job on the hull — antifoul, primer, epoxy or polish — with the batch number from the tin and the preparation you did.
  3. At each haul-out, record what came off and where the fouling was worst.
  4. Compare the fouling lines year on year before deciding whether to change product.
  5. Ask the yard about disposal of washings and scrapings before you start.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: What went on the hull, when, and how it was prepared — every antifoul coat, primer, epoxy and polish, with the tin details written down so the same product can be found again next year.

The tin, the yard and the local rules decide. Which products you may use, how many coats they need and how the old paint and washings must be caught and disposed of are set by the maker's data sheet, the yard and the rules where you are — none of that is printed here. This sheet stops you standing in the chandlery trying to remember what you used last time.

Questions

Why does the sheet not say how many coats to apply?

Because the maker's data sheet does, and it differs between products, hull materials and how long the boat stays in. The Coats column is for what you put on; the number you were aiming for comes from the tin.

Can I go over the old antifoul with a different product?

Sometimes, and sometimes only after a barrier coat. The Compatible over field at the top is for what the maker of your current paint says it can be applied on top of — write it down so the question is answered before the next haul-out.
