What this sheet is for
Control work that makes heat, flame or sparks, and record the after-check that catches the fire that starts once everyone has gone home.
Who it is for
Sites, farms, workshops, garages, factories and any premises where contractors do hot work.
How to use it
- Clear or protect combustibles first — including above the work and below it.
- Check for openings in floors and walls that sparks can travel through.
- Name the fire watch on the permit, and brief them.
- Agree the after-check time and write it on the permit.
- Do the after-check and sign it off. That is the part that matters.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
How long should the fire watch continue after work stops?
That depends on the work, the materials and the building, and it is set by your own assessment and local rules. This permit prints no duration deliberately — write the time you have decided on and check it.
