Leak-test the grill's hose and joints with soapy water each season and at every cylinder swap. The hose, regulator and burner tubes get a dated line, so a perished hose is replaced before it leaks.
Anyone with a gas barbecue or grill running from a propane or other LPG cylinder, at home, at a club or at a holiday let.
One page, top to bottom:
Printed under the title: The grill, regulator, hose and cylinder written down once, then a dated line for each check: the hose, the joints, the soapy-water test at each end, the burner tubes and where the cylinder is kept.
Soapy water, never a flame. Outdoors, with the burner controls off, brush soapy water over every joint and along the hose, then open the cylinder valve. Bubbles that grow mean a leak: close the valve, tighten or replace the part and test again. If you smell gas and it does not stop once the valve is closed, move away and call the emergency services.

Because a flame can ignite a leak. Soapy water brushed on a joint blows bubbles where gas escapes, and it is the method grill makers and fire safety bodies describe. Follow your grill maker's own instructions for the exact steps.
The sheet does not print an interval: it differs between makers and countries, and some hoses and regulators carry a date. Copy the maker's guidance into the replace-by box, and replace sooner if the hose is cracked, stiff or chafed.
Fire safety bodies and gas suppliers advise keeping cylinders upright, outdoors in a ventilated place and away from heat, not indoors or below ground. Follow your supplier's own instructions and any rules where you are.
Keep your own index of who came to the gas appliances and when, so the right certificate can be found without going through a drawer of paperwork.
Keep a dated record of monthly visual checks, and separate them clearly from the professional servicing that premises usually also need.
Check each portable heater before the season starts and keep an eye on it in use. Each heater gets a column, so a frayed cord or a dead tip-over switch is written down rather than noticed and forgotten.
Prove the alarms were tested, and catch the thing most people miss: alarms have an expiry date, and a working test button does not mean a working sensor.
