The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.
The inventory you can finish in an afternoon. Walk each room with the sheet on a clipboard and a phone in your other hand, write one line per item or shelf, put a rough value against it and tick when you have taken the photograph.
Anyone who has been meaning to make a contents list and never has — new tenants, people about to move, and households that want something on paper before a policy renews.
The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The online version keeps what you enter in your own browser and builds the completed PDF on your device.
Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.
As rough as you like, as long as you can say afterwards how you arrived at them. The point of this sheet is coverage — every room, every shelf — not precision. Put the precise figures on the spreadsheet version later.
Whatever you would describe in one breath: 'sofa, three-seater', 'books, four shelves', 'kitchen knives and boards'. Give anything valuable or serial-numbered a line of its own.
For tenants and landlords a contents list is also a condition record. Noting 'worn' or 'chipped' on the day you moved in is the record that decides a deposit.
Yes. Give them their own rows or their own page. Those are the places where people most often forget what they own.
The total value of the contents, worked out from the lines rather than guessed.
What was in each room and what state it was in on day one.
Where the original of each document physically is.
Printable sheets, workbooks and tools on the same subject.
List what you own before you need to, so a claim or a police report starts from a document rather than from trying to remember a burgled room.
Know what is in the boxes without going up into the loft, by numbering the boxes and keeping the list on paper.
