What this sheet is for
Know in October whether the forage will last until spring, instead of finding out in February when everyone else has sold theirs.
Who it is for
Smallholders, horse owners and anyone buying forage in for a winter.
How to use it
- Count what you have in properly at the start of the winter.
- Record what you use weekly, even roughly.
- Work out the weeks remaining at the current rate. That is the whole point.
- Note the quality of each load — it changes how much you need.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
How much hay will I need?
The sheet does not say. It depends on species, size, weather, how much grazing is left and the quality of the hay itself. Two winters of your own records will tell you more than any table.
