Menu Planning Sheet

A free printable menu planning sheet — a week or a single service with dishes, covers expected, prep needed, who is on, and a reference to the allergen record for each dish.

First page of the Menu Planning Sheet — Plan the prep against the covers you are actually expecting, and settle who is doing what before service rather than during it.

What this sheet is for

Plan the prep against the covers you are actually expecting, and settle who is doing what before service rather than during it.

Who it is for

Small kitchens, cafes, pubs, caterers and cooks planning a week of service or a single event menu.

How to use it

  1. Write the site and the week or service at the top.
  2. List the dishes by day or by service, in the order they will be needed.
  3. Put the covers you expect beside each dish and size the prep against that.
  4. Write in who is on and what they are prepping.
  5. Reference the row on your allergen matrix so the two sheets stay tied together.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A week or a single service planned out on one page — the dishes, the covers you are expecting, the prep each dish needs, who is on, and where the allergen record for it lives.

Prep follows covers. Plan the prep against the covers you expect, not the covers you hope for, and write the allergen reference in as you go — the dish and its allergen record are easiest to keep together at the point the menu is written, rather than on the day.

Questions

Why is there a column for the allergen reference?

Because the dish and its allergen information are easiest to connect while the menu is being written. Filling that column in now means nobody is hunting for a recipe card when the question comes in mid-service.
