Prove the pump still works before the water arrives, including the backup that nobody ever tests.

A free printable backwater valve log: debris found, how it was cleaned, the gate moving freely, the seal and the cap refitted, each time it is opened.
One page. Choose your paper size — both versions are laid out identically, so neither one gets shrunk to fit.

Know the backwater valve works before the sewer backs up, not when it does. Each line dates one opening, cleaning and check of the gate and seal.
Homeowners and landlords with a backwater valve or sewer backflow valve fitted to the drain.
One page, top to bottom:
Printed under the title: Every time the backwater valve's access cap comes off: what was inside, how it was cleaned, whether the gate or flap moves freely, the seal, and the cap going back on tight.
The maker's instructions first. No inspection interval is printed: follow the valve maker's instructions and any advice from your drainage utility, and look again after heavy rain or a sewer backup nearby. Make sure nobody runs water in the house while the cap is off, and call a plumber if the gate will not move freely after cleaning.
Write-on lines: Valve location · Type (normally open or closed) · Make and model · Installed on · Installed by · Access cover · Alarm fitted
Table, 10 rows: Date · Debris · Cleaned · Gate · Seal · Cap · Alarm · Problem and follow-up · Initials
Write-on lines: Repairs or parts replaced: date, what, by whom · Checked by
Follow the maker's instructions and any advice from your drainage utility; the sheet prints no interval because valves and local advice differ. A look after heavy rain or a sewer backup in the street is sensible on top of that.
A normally open valve lets the flow pass and closes when sewage pushes back; a normally closed one stays shut and opens to let the flow out. The type changes what you see when you open it, so write it at the top.
Prove the pump still works before the water arrives, including the backup that nobody ever tests.
Turn repeat drain blockages into a dated pattern a plumber or insurer can follow. A camera survey or a repair quote can then be read against the line's whole history.
Pin down where rainwater gets in by watching what it does around the house in a downpour. Outside and inside go on the same line, so the link shows.
Make sure anyone in the household can turn off the water, gas or electricity quickly, including people who did not move in with the property.
