What this sheet is for

Cut every part once, at the right size, from the right board — and know which off-cuts are worth keeping.

Who it is for

Hobby and professional woodworkers, cabinet makers, and anyone breaking down sheet goods or rough timber for a project.

How to use it

  1. State at the top whether the sizes are finished or rough, and what allowance you have made for kerf and planing.
  2. List every part with quantity, material, the three dimensions and grain direction, and note the joint it carries.
  3. Tick each part as it is cut so the count is never in doubt.
  4. Record which board or sheet each part came from and any off-cut worth keeping.

Questions

Why is there a field for kerf and planing allowance rather than a figure?

Because the allowance depends on your saw blade, your planer and whether you are working from rough or dressed stock. The sheet asks you to say what you allowed so that anyone reading the list later knows what the numbers mean.

Should I list parts in the order I will cut them?

Order them however helps you most — by board, by thickness, or by assembly. The Stock section at the foot ties parts back to the board they came from either way.
