What this sheet is for

Keep the groundsman's knowledge on paper: which strips have been used, what preparation produced a good pitch, and what needs resting or repairing.

Who it is for

Volunteer groundsmen and grounds committees at cricket clubs and schools.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the ground and the number of strips on your square at the top.
  2. Give each strip a line in the season table and fill it in as fixtures are allocated.
  3. Log every day's work — mowing, rolling, watering, marking, repairs — with your own settings.
  4. Note the weather and whether the covers were on or off.
  5. After a match, record the wear and when the strip was repaired.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: The groundsman's record of the square — which strip was prepared for which fixture, what was done to it day by day, and what it looked like when the game was over.

Your square, your settings. Mowing heights, rolling times, watering and the number of days a strip is prepared for are your own practice for your own square and soil. The settings column is for your figures, so next season's preparation can copy what worked.

Questions

Why are there no mowing heights or rolling times on the sheet?

Because they depend on your soil, your square's history, the weather and the standard of cricket played on it. The settings column is for your own figures, so the preparation that worked can be repeated next season.
