What this sheet is for

Record foot problems by animal so that the repeat offenders become obvious, which is the single most useful thing a lameness record does.

Who it is for

Sheep, goat, cattle and alpaca keepers, and foot trimmers keeping client records.

How to use it

  1. Score lameness on whatever scale you use, and say at the top which one.
  2. Record what you found, not just that you trimmed.
  3. Set a recheck date for anything you treated.
  4. Review the sheet for repeat offenders before the next gather.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

How often should feet be trimmed?

No interval is printed. It depends on ground, breed, diet and the individual animal, and over-trimming causes its own problems. Your own record of who keeps coming back is a better guide than any general rule.

Can I use this to diagnose lameness?

No. It records what you saw. What a particular lesion is, and how it should be treated, is for your vet or a trained foot trimmer.
