What this sheet is for

Find the reason your records and the bank disagree, instead of assuming one of them is wrong.

Who it is for

Treasurers, bookkeepers, sole traders and anyone who has to explain a balance to somebody else.

How to use it

  1. Start with the balance printed on the statement.
  2. List payments you have made that have not cleared yet.
  3. List money in that has not landed yet.
  4. Adjust, then compare with your own records.
  5. Anything left unexplained goes in the notes and gets chased.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

How often should I do this?

As often as you get a statement, and always before anyone else sees the figures. The sheet prints no frequency because it depends on how busy the account is.
