What this sheet is for

Give a forced-air gas furnace its own record, rather than folding it into a general heating-and-cooling log that was built around a different kind of system.

Who it is for

Homeowners with a gas forced-air furnace, particularly where heating and cooling are serviced separately.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the identification block once, including the filter size so you stop measuring a dirty filter in the dark.
  2. Log each service with the technician and what they checked.
  3. Record the technician's own CO reading rather than a target figure.
  4. Note the next due date as soon as it is booked.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A service record for a gas forced-air furnace, kept separate from whole-house HVAC and cooling — filter size, igniter type and what each service actually checked, with the technician's own readings.

No interval and no reading printed here. Work on gas appliances is restricted to licensed or registered technicians in most places, and the scheme differs by country and state or province. This sheet does not set a service interval or a safe reading for anything — record your technician's own figures and follow your manufacturer's and local requirements.

Questions

Why is there no service interval printed on this sheet?

Intervals differ by manufacturer, by furnace age and by warranty terms, and a wrong figure is worse than a blank one. Your furnace's handbook or your technician sets the interval that applies to yours.

Who is allowed to service a gas furnace?

Gas work is restricted to licensed or registered technicians in most places, and the licensing scheme differs by country and by state or province. Check what applies where you live and record it here.
