How to use it
- Record breathing every week, in words you will understand later.
- Weigh each animal individually rather than the group.
- Note eye and nose staining; it is an early sign worth tracking.
- Log cage cleaning — ammonia from bedding drives respiratory problems.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
Why so much attention to breathing?
Because respiratory disease is the commonest serious illness in pet rats and mice and it can progress fast. A weekly note of what normal sounds like is what lets you tell a vet that something has changed.
