Who this is for

A health kit packed on purpose, not from memory. The sheet lists the everyday first aid items, gives each regular medicine a line for the quantity the trip needs and the paperwork to carry with it, and ends with the documents to have on you.

Anyone packing for a trip, and especially people who take regular medicines or pack for children or older relatives who do.

What this helps you track

  • First aid items packed, with a column for how many
  • Each regular medicine with the quantity needed for the whole trip
  • Whether a prescription copy or letter is carried for each medicine
  • Sun and insect protection ticked off before you leave
  • Insurance and medical documents to hand, not in the hold

How to use it

  1. Write who the kit is for, where you are going and the dates.
  2. Work down the first aid list, writing the quantity packed and ticking each item as it goes in.
  3. Give every regular medicine its own line, work out how much the trip needs from your own prescription, and tick when the prescription copy is packed.
  4. Tick the sun, insect and document items, and write in anything specific to your trip beside the lists or in the browser version.
  5. Check the rules on carrying medicines where you are going and on your airline before you pack them, and keep medicines in hand luggage where you can.
  6. Fill it in on paper or online, where it saves in your own browser for the next trip.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The online version keeps what you enter in your own browser and builds the completed PDF on your device.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

Does the sheet say how much medicine to take?

No. The quantity column is for your own calculation from your prescription and the length of the trip. Ask your pharmacist or prescriber if you are unsure how much to carry or whether to take extra in case of delays.

Do I need a letter for my medicines?

It depends on the medicine and the country. Some destinations restrict certain medicines or ask for paperwork, so check the rules where you are going, and your airline's, well before you travel.

Is this the same as the workplace first aid kit check?

No. That sheet records a fixed kit's contents and expiry dates at work. This one is for packing a personal kit for a single trip, with room for your own medicines and papers.

Can I add items for my trip?

Yes. On paper, write extra items in the margin or on the back. The browser version lets you add items to any list and saves them in your own browser.
