The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.

Who this is for

Saving for one trip, counted down to the day you leave. Each time money goes into the holiday pot you write the date and the amount, and the sheet keeps the running total. The summary shows how far off the target you are, how many weeks remain and what each of those weeks now needs to carry.

Anyone putting money aside for a particular holiday, whether it is a family summer break, a big anniversary trip or a weekend away booked months ahead.

What this helps you track

  • The trip, the departure date and the amount you are aiming for
  • Every payment into the holiday pot, with the date it went in
  • The running total after each payment
  • How many weeks are left before you leave
  • What still needs saving, and what that works out at per week

How to use it

  1. Write the trip, the destination, the departure date and your own target amount at the top.
  2. Each time you put money aside, enter the date and the amount on a new line, with a note if it came from somewhere unusual.
  3. The running total, the weeks remaining and the summary figures are worked out in the browser and the workbook; on paper, add each amount to the line above.
  4. Check the average needed per week now and then; if it creeps up, either raise what you put in or revisit the target.
  5. Keep going until departure, then carry anything left over into the travel spending log for the trip itself.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

How is the amount needed per week worked out?

It takes the target, subtracts everything saved so far and divides what is left by the weeks between today and the departure date. It changes every time you add a payment or a week passes, so check it rather than fixing it at the start.

What target should I set?

That comes from your own costings, not from this sheet. The annual holidays budget planner or a quote for the trip is a good place to get the figure; write it in the target field and the sheet measures against it.

Can I record money taken back out?

Yes. Enter the withdrawal as a minus amount with a note saying why. The running total drops by that much and the weekly figure goes up to match.

Does it matter where the savings are kept?

Not to the sheet. It records what you have set aside, whether that is a separate account, a pot in a banking app or cash in a tin. Use the notes column to say which.
