Free self-storage inventory — box or item number, what is in it, which unit it is in and the value you declare, totalled for insurance. PDF, Excel, browser.
2 pages. The A4 and US Letter files are laid out identically, so neither is shrunk to fit.
Print it and write on it
Fillable PDF type and save
Spreadsheet formulas included
The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.
The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.
What went into storage, in which box, in which unit, and what you have declared it is worth. The totals give you the figure a storage insurer asks for and the list you need when you want one thing back without emptying the unit.
Anyone renting a storage unit — between houses, after a bereavement, for a business overflow — who would struggle to say from memory what is in there or what it would cost to replace.
The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.
Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.
Storage cover is usually arranged against a declared value for the contents of the unit. The total on this sheet is that figure, built from lines you can point at rather than a guess made at the counter.
Rarely worth it. List by box, with the contents summarised, and give individual lines to anything valuable, fragile or likely to be wanted back early. A photograph of the packed box against its number saves a lot of writing.
The unit column takes the unit number for each line, so one sheet covers them all and the summary still totals the lot. Sort or filter by that column in the spreadsheet to see a single unit.
It does, though a moving inventory is usually organised by room rather than by box number. Use whichever matches how you are packing.
Everything in the property, listed by room, so nothing is discovered late.
What is in each room, in the order you walked it.
Each device, where it is and the battery type and size it takes.
Printable sheets, workbooks and tools on the same subject.
Know what is in the boxes without going up into the loft, by numbering the boxes and keeping the list on paper.
List what you own before you need to, so a claim or a police report starts from a document rather than from trying to remember a burgled room.
Every box numbered, with what is in it, which room it came from and which room it is going to — plus a count of what has arrived and what has been unpacked.
Every sheet, binder, game and puzzle on Upkeep Papers is free to download, with no email and no account. Making them is not free: each one takes days of research, design and checking, and the site costs money to run. If something here saved you time, you can buy us a coffee. It is entirely optional: nothing is locked, and nothing changes if you don’t.
