The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Who this is for

See what a cover plan has really been worth. Log each claim under a home warranty or appliance cover plan with the fee paid, anything not covered and how long the fix took, alongside what an outside repair was quoted, and every visit on the second page.

Households paying for a home warranty, boiler or appliance cover plan or an extended warranty, and anyone deciding at renewal whether to keep paying for one.

What this helps you track

  • Every claim, its reference and what failed
  • Call-out fees and costs the plan did not cover
  • How many days each fault took to fix
  • The plan's cost against outside repair quotes
  • Every visit, contractor and next step

How to use it

  1. Copy the provider and plan, start and renewal dates, annual cost, call-out fee and items covered from the plan documents.
  2. Give each claim a line: the date reported, the item and fault, the claim reference and how it ended.
  3. Enter the fee you paid, anything you paid that the plan did not cover and, if you got one, an outside repairer's quote for the same job.
  4. Log each visit on page two with the contractor and what happened; days to fix and the summary are worked out in the browser and the workbook.
  5. At renewal, compare the plan's cost and fees with the outside quotes and decide.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

How do I judge whether the plan is worth it?

Add the plan's cost, the call-out fees and anything it did not cover, and set that against what outside repairs would have cost from quotes you got. The summary does the sums; the decision at renewal is yours.

Where do outside quotes come from?

From a local repairer or the maker's own service, for the same job. Write the figure you were given, or leave it blank if you did not get one. The sheet supplies no repair prices.

What counts as not covered?

Anything you paid on top of the call-out fee because the plan excluded it, such as parts, extra labour, access work or a replacement it would not fund. Your plan's terms say what is excluded.

How are days to fix worked out?

From the date you reported the fault to the date it was fixed, or to today while the claim is still open.

Is this the same as a warranty tracker?

No. The warranty expiry tracker records when cover ends for each item. This log records what happened each time you claimed under a paid plan, so you can see how it performed.
