The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.

Who this is for

Money coming into the estate, item by item. Refunds, final wages, balances from closed accounts and sale proceeds each have their own column, so the totals by type are ready for the estate accounts, and anything not yet confirmed stands out.

Executors and administrators collecting in what is owed to an estate, who need to show where each amount came from and where it was paid.

What this helps you track

  • Each amount received, who it came from and when
  • Totals for refunds, account balances, sale proceeds and other income
  • Which account each payment went into
  • Items still awaiting a confirmation letter or statement
  • The total received for the period

How to use it

  1. Write the name of the estate, the executor and the period the log covers.
  2. When money arrives, enter the date, who it came from and any reference, then put the amount in the column for its type.
  3. Note which account it was paid into, and tick confirmed once a letter or statement backs it up.
  4. The totals by type and the overall total are worked out in the browser and the workbook; on paper, add each column down.
  5. Carry the totals into your estate accounts, and start a fresh sheet for each period if the estate runs on.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

What counts as income to the estate?

Anything paid to the estate after the death: refunds of bills or premiums, final salary or pension, balances from closed accounts, and proceeds from selling belongings, vehicles or property. Other covers anything that does not fit.

Why split the amount across type columns?

Putting each amount in the column for its type gives a total for each type without any sorting, which is how estate accounts are often laid out. Only one type column is filled on each line.

Is this the same as the estate bank account ledger?

No. The ledger records every movement on the account, in and out. This log looks only at money coming in, by source and type, and whether each item is confirmed in writing.

Does it say how estate income is taxed?

No. It supplies no tax rates or rules. Record the amounts here and check how income received by an estate is treated where you are, or ask a professional adviser.
