How to use it

1. Give each bed a line in the first table with the mattress details from the label, the receipt or the guarantee.
2. Copy any care terms from the guarantee word for word, such as using a protector or turning, so they are not forgotten.
3. Each time you rotate, turn or vacuum a mattress or wash its cover, add a line to the care log with anything you noticed.
4. Use the condition check on the second page while the bed is stripped, and write what you find in the log.
5. List pillows, duvets and toppers with their filling and when they were last washed as the label allows.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. Questions

How often should a mattress be rotated or turned?

The sheet does not say, because it depends on the mattress. Many are made to be rotated but not turned over. Follow the maker's label or guarantee, copy what it says into the care terms column and log it when you do it.

Why copy the guarantee's care terms?

Some guarantees depend on the mattress being used on a suitable base, with a protector, or turned as the maker directs. Having the terms and a dated care log together makes a claim easier to support if one is ever needed.

When does a bed need replacing?

There is no age on this sheet. Notes such as a dip where you lie, lumps, springs you can feel or waking up stiff, written down over time, help you judge it for yourself rather than guessing.

Can I record a cot or child's mattress?

Yes. Give it its own line in the beds table and follow the care and replacement guidance that came with it, copying it into the care terms column.
