Sauna and Steam Room Check Sheet

A free printable sauna check sheet — thermometer as read, heater, stones and guard, door and emergency call, benches and floor, with a steam room table.

First page of the Sauna and Steam Room Check Sheet — Give the heat rooms a check of their own instead of a line on the pool sheet, so a loose stone, a sticking door or a scaled steam head is found on the round and not by a user.

What this sheet is for

Give the heat rooms a check of their own instead of a line on the pool sheet, so a loose stone, a sticking door or a scaled steam head is found on the round and not by a user.

Who it is for

Leisure centre and gym staff, hotel spa attendants and anyone running a sauna or steam room alongside a pool.

How to use it

  1. Write in the heater and generator models and the set temperatures and timer settings from your manufacturer and your risk assessment.
  2. On each check, write the thermometer reading as it shows and work along the row.
  3. Check the door opens freely, the emergency call works and the lighting is on.
  4. Note what the room was cleaned with, and any fault, and initial the row.

What is on the sheet

2 pages, in this order:

Page 1

Printed under the title: The dry and wet heat rooms beside a pool or in a gym — heater, stones and guard, steam generator, door and emergency call, benches and floor — checked and cleaned on the same row.

As read, against your own settings. Temperatures are written down as the room thermometer shows them; the operating temperature and the timer settings are your manufacturer's and your own risk assessment's, not this sheet's. Cleaning products and how often the benches are scrubbed come from your cleaning schedule — note what was done, against that.

Deeper checks, on the interval your cleaning schedule sets

  • Lift the sauna benches and duckboards and clean underneath and behind them
  • Check the stones for crumbling and re-stack them as the heater manufacturer shows
  • Descale the steam generator and flush its drain as the manufacturer's manual sets out
  • Check the door seals, hinges and closers on both rooms, and that neither can be locked from inside
  • Test the emergency call from inside each room with the door shut, and log who answered
  • Check the timers and cut-outs switch off at the settings written at the top

Ruled lines: Notes — faults reported, parts ordered, rooms taken out of use

Questions

Why are there no operating temperatures on the sheet?

Because they are set by your heater or generator manufacturer and your own risk assessment, and a hotel spa and a club sauna will not run the same. There is a box for yours at the top so each reading can be judged against it.

Why is the steam room on the same sheet?

Because they are checked on the same round by the same person, but they fail in different ways — dry heat and stones on one, scale and drains on the other — so each has its own columns.
