What this sheet is for

Describe a stolen caravan, boat or trailer exactly, from one sheet. The numbers, marks and photos are written down now, while it is in front of you.

Who it is for

Caravan, boat, trailer and outboard owners, and clubs or storage sites keeping records for members.

How to use it

  1. Give each caravan, boat, trailer, outboard or tender its own column on page one.
  2. Copy the numbers from the plates and documents, and write down the marks only you would know.
  3. Photograph each side and each number, and note where the photos are kept.
  4. List the locks, trackers and alarms on page two, with key numbers but never codes.
  5. Keep a copy away from the van or boat, so it is not stolen with it.

What is on the sheet

If it is stolen. Report it to the police first and write the reference here. Then tell the insurer and, where you have them, the registration scheme, the tracker company and the marina, storage site or club, so it is recognised if it turns up.

Questions

Why write down dents and stickers?

Because numbers can be removed or changed, but a repair, a scuff or a sticker in an odd place is how an owner recognises their own boat or van. It is the detail the police and an insurer will ask for.

Should I write my alarm or tracker code here?

No. Write the key number and the supplier, so spares can be ordered, but keep codes and passwords somewhere else. If this sheet goes missing with the van, it should not unlock anything.
