What this sheet is for

Have the IMEI and SIM number to hand the day a phone is lost, and know whose pocket each company number is in.

Who it is for

Small businesses and charities with a handful of company phones, and office managers who deal with the network account.

How to use it

  1. Record the IMEI from the box or the settings screen when the phone arrives.
  2. Copy the SIM number from the card itself before it goes in.
  3. Write the holder's name and the date each time the phone changes hands.
  4. Mark the return date when a handset comes back, and start a new line when it is reissued.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: Every company handset and SIM — the identifiers that matter when one is lost, the number it answers to, and the person holding it now.

IMEI and SIM number, before you need them. The IMEI is on the box and under Settings; the SIM number is printed on the card itself. Both are what the network asks for to block a lost phone, and neither is easy to find once the handset is gone. No PINs or unlock codes belong on this sheet.

Questions

Why is there no column for the PIN or unlock code?

Deliberately. A register of phones and their unlock codes is a list of open doors. The identifiers here are the ones a network needs to block a lost phone, which is safe to keep on paper.

What about personal phones used for work?

Only record what the business owns or pays for. A staff member's own handset is not the business's to register.
