What this sheet is for
Plan the season with last year's beds in front of you, which is the only way rotation decisions get made from fact rather than memory.
Who it is for
Vegetable gardeners, allotment holders, raised-bed growers and anybody planning a plot over winter.
How to use it
- Fill in the 'last year' column first, from last season's sheet.
- Group crops however you group them, and write the grouping down.
- Count the plants you need before ordering seed, not afterwards.
- Keep the completed sheet — next winter it becomes the 'last year' column.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
How is this different from the allotment plot plan?
The plot plan is a drawing of the ground, to scale. This is a table for the season's decisions: what was in each bed last year, what goes there now, and what has to be raised or bought to make that happen. Many people use both.
Why no rotation rules?
Because they depend on your soil, your climate and what you want to eat, and gardeners disagree about them for good reasons. The sheet puts the information in front of you and leaves the rule to you.
