What this sheet is for
Turn a greenhouse from a place things happen into a place with a record, so a bad germination or a lost crop can be traced back to the week it went wrong.
Who it is for
Greenhouse, polytunnel and cold frame growers, and anyone raising plants under cover for the first time.
How to use it
- Fit a min/max thermometer at plant height, out of direct sun, and note where it is.
- Read and reset it at the same time each day, and record both figures.
- Log watering and feeding as you do them — including the days you did nothing.
- Write down pests the day you first see them, not the week you give in to them.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
Why record minimum and maximum rather than the temperature now?
Because the reading you happen to take is rarely the one that mattered. The damage is usually done by the low overnight or the high while you were out, and a min/max thermometer is the only way to see either of them.
What goes in the feeding column?
What you used and how much of it. Feeds differ in strength and in how they are diluted, so the sheet does not print a rate — it records the one on your bottle and what you actually mixed.
