Cycling Ride Log

A free printable cycling ride log — date, route, distance, time, elevation, which bike you rode, the conditions and notes, one row per ride.

First page of the Cycling Ride Log — Build a written record of what you rode and on which bike, which is also what tells you how far a chain, a set of tyres or a pair of pads has really gone.

What this sheet is for

Build a written record of what you rode and on which bike, which is also what tells you how far a chain, a set of tyres or a pair of pads has really gone.

Who it is for

Road, gravel and mountain bike riders, commuters keeping a mileage record, and anyone running more than one bike.

How to use it

  1. List the bikes you ride at the top, then name one in every row.
  2. Record distance in your own units and keep to the same ones down the page.
  3. Leave the elevation column blank when nothing recorded it — a guess is worse.
  4. Note the conditions; a slow ride into a headwind is not a bad ride.
  5. Carry mechanicals through to the bicycle service log rather than losing them here.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: A running log of rides — the route, the distance, the time, the climbing if your computer recorded it, which bike you were on and what the weather did.

Record the bike, not just the ride. Which bike a ride was done on is worth a column of its own: it is the figure that tells you what a chain, a set of tyres or a pair of brake pads has actually done when the time comes to replace them.

Ruled lines: Mechanicals, kit that failed, and anything the bike needs

Questions

Why a column for which bike?

Because components wear by distance, not by date, and with two or three bikes in the shed nobody can say afterwards how far any one of them has done. One column here answers that question for the service log later.

Is there a target mileage on this sheet?

No. No weekly distances, build-up or rest days are printed or implied. What you ride comes from your own plan or your coach, and this sheet only records it.
