What this sheet is for

Track servicing against distance and record chain wear, which is what decides whether a cheap chain change becomes an expensive cassette.

Who it is for

Commuters, road and mountain cyclists, families with several bikes, and small shops keeping customer records.

How to use it

  1. Fill in the reference block once, from the manufacturer's figures.
  2. Record the odometer or app distance at every service.
  3. Note chain wear each time you measure it; the trend is the useful part.
  4. Record part numbers so reordering never needs research.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

What interval should I service at?

The sheet does not say, and no honest sheet could — it depends on the bike, the weather you ride in and the miles you do. Your manufacturer's figures go in the reference block so they sit beside the work record.
