Record what actually went into a bioactive build, so that a problem months later can be traced to a decision rather than guessed at.
Who it is for
Keepers running bioactive vivariums, paludariums and planted terrariums.
How to use it
- Record the build in detail; you will not remember the substrate mix in a year.
- Log the clean-up crew added and when you next saw them.
- Record mould and pest outbreaks — early ones are usually normal.
- Note which plants survived and which did not.

Record the build; it explains the year. A bioactive setup is a small ecosystem and it takes months to settle. Recording what you put in, and when, is what lets you work out later why something is or is not working. No species, ratios or depths are recommended.

How long does a bioactive setup take to settle?
Longer than most people expect, and it varies. Recording the build and the first few months is what lets you tell the difference between settling and failing.
