What this sheet is for

Keep a treatment history with the weight beside it, which matters more for exotics than for most species.

Who it is for

Keepers of reptiles, birds, small mammals, fish and invertebrates.

How to use it

  1. Record the weight at every visit; exotic dosing is weight-critical.
  2. Write the findings as the vet described them.
  3. Record husbandry changes the vet recommended — that is usually the real treatment.
  4. Keep the sheet with the husbandry record for that animal.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

Why does the sheet not list medicines?

Because exotic species are very often prescribed off-licence, doses are calculated from body weight, and a figure that is right for one species can be lethal in another. Only your vet can supply them.

How do I find an exotics vet?

Before you need one. Many general practices see exotics rarely, and out of hours cover for them is patchier still. The sheet has a line for the practice for that reason.
