What this sheet is for
Record the settings that produced each print, so a good result can be repeated and a failed one diagnosed instead of guessed at.
Who it is for
Anyone running a printer at home, in a workshop, a makerspace or a classroom.
How to use it
- Fill in the settings when you start the print, not when it finishes.
- Record the filament brand and colour — behaviour differs between them.
- Write down failures and what they looked like. The failures are the useful entries.
- Tick the maintenance list at intervals you set yourself.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
Why no recommended temperatures?
Because they depend on your printer, your filament, your nozzle and the room it is standing in. Copying a stranger's numbers is exactly the habit this log exists to replace: after twenty prints, your own log is the best reference you will find.
