What this sheet is for
Record the alterations you made to a pattern, so the next garment from it starts from a fitted version instead of the envelope.
Who it is for
Home sewists, dressmakers and anybody who has made the same fitting adjustment three times without writing it down.
How to use it
- Take your measurements today rather than using the ones from last year.
- Write the difference between body and pattern before deciding the adjustment.
- List the construction order before you start; it is where time is lost.
- Record the fitting notes while the garment is on, not afterwards.
What is on the sheet
The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.
Questions
Does the sheet tell me how much ease to add?
No. Ease is designed into the pattern and differs by company, garment and fabric, and a generic figure would fight the pattern you are using. The sheet records what you chose and what the result was.
