The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.

Who this is for

Every piece of homework set, and what came back. Each row holds the task, the class, when it was due, how many pupils were in the class and how many handed in on time or late; the sheet works out how many are missing.

Subject and class teachers who set homework to several classes a week and want the return rate on paper before a parents evening or a conversation with a head of year.

What this helps you track

  • What was set to each class, when, and when it was due
  • How many handed in on time and how many late, per task
  • How many pieces are missing from each task, worked out for you
  • The totals across the sheet, so a class's habit shows rather than a single bad week
  • Notes on who is chasing what, so nothing is chased twice or not at all

How to use it

  1. Write the teacher, the subject and the period the sheet covers at the top.
  2. Add a row each time homework is set: the date, the class, the task in a few words and the due date.
  3. Write the number of pupils in the class on that row — it can change between classes and between terms.
  4. When the work is in, count what came on time and what came late and write both figures. The missing column takes them from the class size in the browser version and the workbook.
  5. Use the notes column for who is still to hand in and what has been done about it.
  6. Read the totals at the foot before a meeting; a return rate on paper is worth more than a feeling about a class.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

What does the missing column show?

The number in the class, less those returned on time, less those returned late. If the figures ever add up to more than the class, it shows nothing rather than a minus, which is a sign to check the count.

Does it record which pupils were late?

Not by name — it is a count per task, built to be quick. Write names in the notes if you want them, or keep a pupil-level record alongside it.

Can I keep one sheet for several classes?

Yes; that is what the class column is for. The totals then cover all the classes together, so sort the workbook by class when you want one class alone.

What counts as late?

Whatever you decide and apply consistently. The sheet counts what you put in each column and does not define either.
