Who this is for
Decide the dinners once and repeat them. Fill a grid of four to six weeks by day, then list each meal with its main ingredient, a prep note and who cooks it, plus the swap-ins and seasonal meals you can drop in.
Families tired of the nightly what-shall-we-have question, households with a set shop each week, and anyone who wants the cooking shared out fairly.
What this helps you track
- Which dinner falls on each day of each week in the cycle
- The main ingredient of each meal, for writing the shopping list
- Anything that has to be done ahead, like defrosting or soaking
- Who cooks which meal
- Swap-in meals and seasonal alternatives for when the plan needs a change
How to use it
- Write the household, how many weeks the rotation runs, the date it starts and any standing rules such as a meat-free night.
- Fill the grid week by week with a short name for each dinner, leaving a gap for takeaway or eating-out nights if you have them.
- List each meal once in the meal details table with its main ingredient, a prep note and who cooks it.
- Add swap-in and seasonal meals to the same table, marked as such, so a change of plan has somewhere to come from.
- Pin the page up, or keep the browser version, which saves in your own browser, and start again at week one when the cycle ends.

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The online version keeps what you enter in your own browser and builds the completed PDF on your device.
How to print
Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.
Questions
How many weeks should the rotation be?
Whatever suits your household. A shorter cycle is easier to shop for; a longer one repeats less often. The grid has room for six weeks, and you can leave the last rows empty if you settle on fewer.
What goes in the standing rules?
Anything that holds every week: a meat-free night, fish on a set day, a quick meal on the evening of a late club, leftovers on Sunday. Writing them down first makes the grid quicker to fill.
What are swap-ins for?
For when a meal cannot happen: an ingredient is missing, someone is out, or the weather changes. Pick from the swap-in list rather than starting from nothing, and the rotation survives the week.
Does it plan the shopping too?
The main ingredient column gives you the backbone of the list. For a full list with quantities, the meal planner and grocery list or your own shopping sheet takes it from there.
