Spreadsheet formulas included

The fillable versions have real form fields — open them in any PDF reader, type into them and save. Printing help.

The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.

Who this is for

Where a year of training time goes. Enter the hours spent on each of your activities month by month and the summary adds up each month, each activity and the whole year.

People with mixed training, such as running, cycling, swimming, gym and classes, who want to see the balance across a year rather than one sport at a time.

What this helps you track

  • Hours on each activity every month
  • Monthly totals across all activities
  • Annual hours for each activity and overall
  • Sessions per month and for the year
  • How the year's hours split between activities

How to use it

  1. Write your name and the year, then name up to six activities in the order of the columns.
  2. At the end of each month, total the hours for each activity from your log or app and enter them.
  3. Write the number of sessions you did that month and a note on anything unusual.
  4. Monthly and annual totals are worked out in the browser and the workbook; on paper, add across and down.
  5. To see an activity's share, divide its annual total by the overall total.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

Why hours rather than distance?

Hours are the one measure that works across every activity. A swim, a ride and a gym session cannot be compared by distance or weight, but time spent can be added up.

Should I use decimals or hours and minutes?

Decimals, so the sums work: an hour and a half is 1.5, forty-five minutes is 0.75. Round to whatever precision you like.

What if I do more than six activities?

Group the smaller ones, such as putting yoga and stretching under one column, or use the last column for everything else and list what it covers in the header.

How is the monthly average worked out?

The year's total divided by twelve. Part way through the year it will read low; divide by the months completed instead if you want the average so far.
