The same sheet, on screen. Totals and figures are worked out as you type, rows can be added or removed, and you can print it or download the completed version as a PDF. Everything stays in your browser — your entries are kept in this browser's own storage on this device, nothing is uploaded, and there is no account.

Who this is for

Log savings and investment income as it arrives. Interest and dividends each have their own table with the gross amount, any tax taken before it reached you and the net received, plus a tick for income earned inside a tax-free account, so the year's totals are ready when the tax return is.

Savers and investors with interest from several accounts or dividends from shares and funds, who need the year's figures for a tax return or want to see what their money actually earned.

What this helps you track

  • Each interest payment by bank, account and date
  • Each dividend or fund distribution by company or fund
  • The gross amount, tax taken at source and net received
  • Income inside tax-free accounts kept apart from the rest
  • Year totals by type, ready for the tax return

How to use it

  1. Write your name and the tax year with its start and end dates at the top.
  2. Log interest in the first table as it is paid or credited, copying the gross figure and any tax taken from the statement or app.
  3. Log dividends and fund distributions in the second table from the tax voucher or platform statement, choosing the kind it is labelled as.
  4. Tick Tax-free for income earned inside an ISA or other tax-free account; Outside then shows only what was earned elsewhere.
  5. Net, Outside and the summary are worked out in the browser and the workbook; on paper, subtract across and total each column.
  6. Whether any of it is taxable depends on your allowances and the rules where you are; take the totals to your return or your adviser.

Formats

  • Printable PDF (A4 and US Letter)
  • Fillable PDF with form fields
  • Fill in online, saved in your browser
  • Excel / Google Sheets workbook

The printable is laid out inside a box that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the two files are identical and neither one is scaled. The fillable PDF has real form fields. The workbook uses plain formulas only — SUM, IF, COUNTIF and the like — so it opens in Excel, LibreOffice and Google Sheets without anything breaking, and every calculated cell is grey so you can see which figures it worked out.

How to print

Download the A4 or US Letter file to match the paper in your printer, open it in a PDF reader and print at 100% — not "fit to page", which shrinks the writing space. Both files leave a 14 mm margin, which clears the unprintable edge on home printers. To print the online version with your entries in it, use the Print this sheet button, which prints only the sheet and none of the page around it. More on printing.

Questions

Where do I find the gross amount and tax taken?

On the annual interest statement from your bank, the dividend tax voucher or the tax summary from your platform. If nothing was taken before payment, enter the amount as gross and leave Tax taken blank.

Should I record income inside a tax-free account?

It is worth recording so you can see what each account earns. Ticking Tax-free keeps it out of the Outside column, which holds the income earned elsewhere. What has to be reported depends on the rules where you are.

How is this different from the tax year income and expense summary?

That sheet brings a whole year's income and expenses together by source. This one logs each interest and dividend payment as it arrives, so the savings income figures are already added up when you fill in the summary.

What is a fund distribution?

A payment made by an investment fund or unit trust, which the voucher may label as a dividend or as interest. Choose the label it carries, because the two can be treated differently for tax.
