What this sheet is for

Service a ride-on by hours rather than by guesswork, and stop a deck belt or a spindle bearing being the thing that ends the season early.

Who it is for

Owners of a ride-on or lawn tractor, and anyone cutting large grounds or a paddock with one.

How to use it

  1. Fill the specification block from the handbook — oil, filters, plugs, belts and blade part numbers, and the interval your handbook gives.
  2. Read the hour meter every service and write it down; the hours are the record.
  3. Tick what was done, and use the other-work column for spindles, bearings and anything on the deck.
  4. Run the before-use checks, above all the seat switch and the blade cut-out.

What is on the sheet

One page, top to bottom:

Printed under the title: Hour-based service record for a ride-on or lawn tractor — the engine, the deck and the belts as three separate things that wear at three different rates.

Write-on lines: Mower make & model · Serial number · Purchased · Warranty ends

Specifications — from the handbook — look these up once

Write-on lines: Engine oil type & qty · Oil filter part no. · Spark plug(s) & gap · Service interval (hrs) · Air filter (main / pre) · Fuel filter part no. · Battery type · Tyre pressures F / R · Blade part no. & count · Deck belt part no. · Drive belt part no. · Blade bolt torque · Transmission oil

Service record by hours

Table, 6 rows: Date · Hours · Oil & filter · Air filter · Plugs · Blades · Belts · Deck greased · Other work · By

Before each use

  • Seat switch stops the engine or blades
  • Blades stop when disengaged or in reverse
  • Parking brake holds on a slope
  • Tyre pressures matched side to side
  • Deck clear of packed grass, discharge guard on
  • Oil level, fuel level, no leaks underneath

Questions

Why is this separate from the Lawn Mower Service Log?

A ride-on has a deck with belts and spindles, a transmission, a battery and an hour meter that a walk-behind does not. The columns here follow those parts; the walk-behind sheet would leave half of them with nowhere to go.

What should the tyre pressures be?

Whatever the handbook or the tyre sidewall says for your machine — the sheet leaves a blank for it. Matching them side to side matters more for cut quality than the number itself.
