Keep the chain and bar specifications where you can find them, and track sharpening and servicing between them.

Who it is for

Anyone using a petrol chainsaw for firewood, forestry or property maintenance.

How to use it

Fill in the specification block from the saw and the bar — pitch, gauge and drive links are what you need to buy a chain.
Log each sharpening and chain replacement.
Run the pre-use checks every time, not just at service intervals.
Record the fuel mix ratio; it is the one figure people get wrong.

What is on the sheet

The layout is fixed at a size that fits both A4 and US Letter, so the A4 and Letter files are visually identical and print at full size on either. Rows are set at a height that an adult can actually write a date and a few words into with a pen — most printable tables are built in a word processor and never tested with one.

Questions

What do pitch, gauge and drive links mean?

They are the three measurements that identify a chain: the spacing of the rivets, the thickness of the drive links, and how many links go round the bar. All three are needed to order the right chain, and they are stamped on the bar or listed in the handbook.
